ØSTFYNS MUSEER
Østfyns Museer covers the municipalities of Nyborg and Kerteminde and works with archaeology, art, and cultural history in the region.
Organisation
Østfyns Museer was established in 2009 through a merger of the museums in the municipalities of Kerteminde and Nyborg. We are a state-recognised museum, which commits us to the collection, registration, preservation, research, and communication of the cultural heritage of Eastern Funen.
We are a self-governing institution with a board composed of members appointed by the two municipalities and by the museum’s two support associations. The museum operates under a service agreement with the municipalities of Kerteminde and Nyborg.
Organisationally, Østfyns Museer is structured into a central administration and three departments:
– Department of Art History and the Johannes Larsen Museum
– Department of Cultural History and Nyborg Castle (including Borgmestergården and Dyrehave Mill in Nyborg, as well as Farvergården, Høkeren, and the Town Archive in Kerteminde)
– Department of Archaeology and the Viking Museum Ladby
Key narratives
In terms of subject matter, Østfyns Museer has chosen to present art and cultural history through three main narratives:
- The Royal Eastern Funen
- Maritime Eastern Funen
- The interplay between art and nature
The museum employs around 100 people, corresponding to approximately 45 full-time equivalents.
Support Associations
Østfyns Museer is supported by two affiliated support associations:
Museum sites
You can visit Østfyns Museer at eight different museum sites. All of them offer engaging and interesting exhibitions, but Nyborg Castle, the Viking Museum Ladby, and the Johannes Larsen Museum stand out as flagship attractions.
