Special Exhibition: A Day at the Beach
24. January to 3. May 2026

The exhibition invites visitors to Johannes Larsen Museum to the shoreline, where Danish artists found motifs, drama, and scenes of everyday life for nearly a century. From the toil of fishermen and shipwrecks to holiday atmosphere and the freedom of the outdoors, the exhibition shows how the significance of the beach in art has evolved alongside society.

This new special exhibition focuses on women’s work and significance in the Viking Age. In particular, it highlights women’s role in textile production, a specialised and highly labour-intensive process essential for making clothing and, not least, sails.
